How to register marriage or birth

How to register a marriage or birth

Marriages

In Macedonia, British nationals wishing to marry under the local law are required to produce a Certificate of No Impediment issued by a consular officer in Skopje.

Where the British national is resident in the UK and the other party is resident in the country where the marriage is to be solemnised, a registrar in the UK may accept notice from the first party.  Where both parties are resident in the UK they may give notice to a UK Superintendent Registrar.

Where a British national resident in Macedonia proposes to marry locally the consular officer may accept notice of marriage and issue a Certificate of No Impediment. Both certificates are issued in the English language.

The procedure for the issue of Certificates of No Impediment to British nationals resident in Macedonia is as follows:

-                   the applicant must reside in Macedonia where notice of the proposed marriage is to be given for at least 21 days before giving notice
-                   the applicant must show his/her British passport to a consular officer
-                   the applicant should complete and sign a Notice of Marriage form and swear and Affidavit before the consular officer.

The Notice of Marriage is placed on the notice board in the Consular Section for another 21 days.

Where the British national has completed a Notice of Marriage in the UK before a UK registrar, and produces a Certificate of No Impediment issued in the UK, the consular officer may issue his/her own Certificate of No Impediment.

The consular fees chargeable in connection with marriages are:

Fee 29  Receiving a notice of an intended marriage  -  74 Euros

Fee 32  Issuing a certificate of no impediment   -   74 Euros

(The fees are charged in Euros only at the consular rate of exchange: £1 = 1.33).
