UK supports better regulation in Macedonia (09/09/2009)

RIA manual promotion

Vice Premier for Economic Affairs Vladimir Pesevski and Ambassador Andrew Key promoted the new manual for Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) that will assist Macedonia’s better regulation.  On this occasion a public presentation of the manual was held in the Macedonian Government building.  Further more, a round table on the impact of RIA was organised gathering  business sector representatives, chambers of commerce and international organisations.

RIA stands for assessment of the social, economic and environmental impact of the legislative acts. For Macedonia implementation of RIA means improving the quality of future legislation therefore better regulation.
Better regulation benefits businesses, public servants and those in the third sector, as well as members of the public, by:

- Reducing the administrative burdens on business, the third sector and frontline public servants
- Reduce unnecessary bureaucracy
- Help consumers make more informed choices

In the UK this concept (Impact Assessment) is being implemented on the policy level. Sharing the UK experience, British Ambassador Key stressed the importance of the regulatory reform in Macedonia for the Euro-Atlantic perspective and for the prosperity of the citizens of Macedonia.
