The UK is determined to see stability and security embedded in the Western Balkan region.  In Macedonia the Ohrid Framework Agreement provides a strong basis for avoiding the problems that came to a head in the violent events of 2001.  Full implementation of this agreement will help to ensure continued stability in Macedonia, and contribute to regional security.  

The British Embassy in Skopje actively supports efforts to implement the Ohrid Framework Agreement, and to build strong democratic institutions as the basis for a successful multi-ethnic country.  We are also supporting and promoting regional co-operation.  Our diplomatic work in advocating policies that will promote political stability and co-operation is supported by assistance programmes and defence co-operation.
